To crochet the head of the axolotl
round 1 – 6 sc (6 sts)
round 2 – 6 increases (12 sts)
round 3 – sc, inc 3 times (18 sts)
round 4 -2 sc, inc x 6 (24 sts)
round 5 – 3 sc, inc x 6 (30 sts)
round 6 – 4 sc, inc x 6 (36 sts)
round 7 – 5 sc, inc x 6 (42 sts)
round 8 – 14 – 1 sc in each st (42 sts)
round 15 – making a mouth in this round, 1 sc in first 17 sts working under both loops, then work 1 sc into the next 8 sts, working in the back loop only, then 1 sc in the last 17 sts working under both loops.
round 16 – making a mouth in this round 1 sc in first 16 sts working under both loops, then work 1 sc into the next st, working in the back loop only, then 1 sc in the last 8 sts working under both loops, then work 1 sc into the next st, working in the back loop only, then work 1 sc in the last 16 sts working under the last 15 sts working under both loops.

front legs – Make 2 front legs
chain 10, sl st in first 3 ch for first toe, * then ch 5, slip st in 2nd chain from hook, then sl st in the next 4 sts for 2nd toe * then repeat from * to * for the 3rd toe, then for the fourth toe ch 4, then sl st in 2nd ch from hook then sl st in next 2 st for 4th toe.
pickup a loop 3 times in the ends of the toes to create the palm, you will have 4 loops on the hook after picking up the 3 loops, then yo and pull through all 4 loops, then sc in the 6 ch working towards the first ch from the beginning of the work furthest from the toes.
then ch 7, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and then 1 sc in the next 5 ch then sew together to create the arm working through the front loops.
back legs – Make 2 back legs
chain 10, sl st in first 3 ch for first toe, * then ch 5, slip st in 2nd chain from hook, then sl st in the next 4 sts for 2nd toe * then repeat from * to * 2 more times for the 3rd toe and 4th toe, since the back legs have one more toe than the front legs ( the front legs of an axolotl have 4 toes and the back legs have 5 toes) then for the fifth toe ch 4, then sl st in 2nd ch from hook then sl st in next 2 st for 4th toe.

For the gills for the head (make 6)
with the lighter pink yarn, ch 8, then sc in the second ch from hook, then sc in the next ch, then 2 hdc in the next 3 sts, then 1 dc into the next 2 sts.
then fasten off.
change to the second color to make the fringe part of the gills

row 3 switch to the darker pink color
sc, hdc x 3, 2 dc x 2, hdc 3 x, sc, hdc 3 x, 2 dc x 2, hdc x 3, sc, hdc, 2 hdc x 2, at center dc tr dc, 2 dc x 2, hdc x 3, sc, hdc x 3, sc, hdc 3 x, 2 dc x 2, hdc x 3, sc
fasten off
sew the dorsal fin at bottom.
